Behavioural Counselling

Have you ever noticed your pet acting out or showing quirky behaviours? Well, you are not alone. Up to 15% of pets have behaviour issues. Without counselling or training their loving owners can feel powerless. Bad habits in your pets can put themselves and other animals or humans in danger. This is why our team offers behavioural counselling services. We understand that sometimes these habits stem from health issues. For this reason, we do our best to provide treatment and improve their habits. At Sims Veterinary Hospital we can create medical and behavioural treatment plans to assist your pet.

When would your team recommend behavioural counselling for my pet?

When your pet exhibits behaviours that could affect the safety of other pets, humans and themselves we recommend behavioural counselling. If your pet is showing unnatural behaviours or habits, you should have the issue assessed right away as they could be expressing pain.

What are signs that my pet may need behavioural counselling?

When pets become annoyed, anxious or aggressive they display habits that can range from mild to dangerous. Here are some possible habits to look for in your pet:

  • Hiding
  • Pacing, whining, panting
  • Excessive barking
  • Licking themselves constantly until fur comes off
  • House soiling

Some of these signs can be related to health issues and you should have a veterinarian rule out any illnesses. To speak with our veterinarian about your pet’s quirky habits call us at 613.531.3334.
