Euthanasia Services for Pets

Considering euthanasia for your beloved pets is heartbreaking not just for you, but for everyone in your family. We want you to know that at Sims Veterinary Hospital, our team sympathizes with you as you make this difficult decision. Our team is always available to listen to your concerns and provide advice on your pet’s situation.

What is euthanasia in pets?

Euthanasia is the term used to describe the gentle and painless way of ending your pet’s life. This is only recommended when all medical treatments to improve your pet’s quality of life have been unsuccessful. Our team is here to provide you with support and information about the process. To learn more about euthanasia please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 613.531.3334.

How can I tell if my pet has a poor quality of life?

When your furry friend’s quality of life becomes poor they start to act differently. If your pet starts having more bad days than good ones, this may be a sign that their quality of life is depleting. Other signs of a poor quality of life can include:

  1. Sleeping more often
  2. Being less playful
  3. Eating or drinking less
  4. Weight loss
  5. Aggressive behaviour
  6. Shaking or trembling
  7. Hiding from you or other animals

What should I expect when my pet is euthanized?

Our veterinarians have received special training to perform euthanasia seamlessly. The entire process takes seconds to be completed. Pet owners are allowed to be present to say farewell to their cherished pets. We give your pet a sedative to keep them calm and comfortable, then we administer the medication to end their life.
